A brief introduction to SMS.ac

What the heck is a Pod? And who is SMS.ac? SMS.ac is the largest international mobile community website that offers free text messages to it's users.

In addition to free SMS text messages, SMS.ac has a wide variety of pod application, or pods, that users may subscribe to for a monthly subscription fee. This subscription fee is billed directly to the user's cell phone.

Think of a pod as a mini-application that sits on a users homepage. The application is hosted within an IFRAME and utilizes AJAX technology allowing multiple pod applications to run independently of each other on a user's homepage. The application may also communicate with the user's mobile phone. An example would be the delivery of a mobile alert (text message) to the pod owner. These mobile alerts are billed as premium text messages on the user's mobile account.

Here are a few examples of the pods I've built for SMS.ac since November 2005. In order to subscribe to any of my pods you'll have to first sign-up on the SMS.ac website.
